Welcome to this course, LGBTQI+ Inclusion in Health, Physical Education and Sport. This course has been produced by Proud 2 Play with the support of Sport and Recreation Victoria, ANZ/Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, and Dr Ruth Jeanes and Dr Karen Lambert (Monash University). The Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (Victoria Branch) have also contributed to this work. 

This course should take approximately two hours to complete and a certificate will be produced at the end of the course in support of application for Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) professional development hours.  This course has been constructed with reference to resources available to people living in the state of Victoria, Australia. If you are taking this course outside of Victoria, some of these resources may not be applicable to you. 

What you will learn 

This course is designed for school teachers and will provide you with an overview of LGBTQI+ communities, their experiences in sport and how you can support LGBTQI+ inclusion in school health and PE (HPE) and sport. The information included is within the scope of being an introductory course to provide an overview of LGBTQI+ inclusion in school PE and sport. There are five main modules in this course: 

  • Understanding LGBTQI+ communities 
  • Barriers to participation 
  • Information currently available to teachers 
  • LGBTIQ+ inclusive practice (static) 
  • LGBTQI+ inclusive practice (dynamic)
